How to Troubleshoot the FleetArc Telematic or FA470 Device

FA470 not reporting GPS, no diagnostic's available for MirrorEye

The MirrorEye system uses the FA470 telematic device for GPS as well as remote diagnostic capabilities.  When this device is not communicating, we are unable to track GPS or access remote diagnostics.   When troubleshooting this device for communication it is required to work directly with MirrorEye support to confirm device connectivity. 

The device should not be replaced without communication with the MirrorEye support team.

Proper installation of the device:

1. device should be placed / secured with LED face up (towards the sky)  Install location can vary based on OEM of the vehicle.  Gen 2 MirrorEye systems this device should be located in the dash.  (sample install locations shown below)

2. 2 connectors (CN 1 & CN3) on the device are not channeled to fit in specific location.  Besure to verify proper installation. Harness is labeled as well as channel labels on the FA470 device. 

           

How to troubleshoot:

2.  No LED on the device does not indicate an issue with the device, the status flash only continues for 8 to 10 hours following a reset.   A device reset must be completed during troubleshooting 

1. Disconnecting both harness connectors

2. wait 2 mins

3. reconnect in proper orientation; you should hear 2 beeps from the device indicating that it is resetting.  

4. wait for full start up, can take up to 60 seconds

5. count the number of flashes on the blink sequence.  refer to chart for status.  The device needs to see 6 or 7 blinks to communicate.  Some building structures can affect the connectivity of the device so it may be necessary to have the unit outside in open air to gain a good connection. 

6. if no status light is found, communicate this to the MirrorEye Support team for support on replacing the device.  

7. Before installing the new device take a photo of the device label.  Information from the device is required for configuration, Device ID & Reg Key.  MirrorEye support will request a photo of the device tag to be emailed on the support ticket.
